What does "the basis currency is the Polish Zloty" mean?

The hotels that we deal with are in Poland and therefore room charges are in Polish currency (the Zloty). When you make your reservation, the charge is actually being quoted in Polish Zloty (i.e. the "basis currency").

If you have asked to see charges in a currency other than the Zloty (i.e. Euros or U.S. dollars), we do the math to convert the charge from Zloty's to the currency you have asked to view charges in. The conversion is based on the exchange rate at the end of the day on the banking business day prior to the day you are making your reservation.

Since the actual charge that appears on your credit card statement is based upon the currency exchange rate on the day that your credit card supplier actually processes the charge, sometimes this means that the actual charge you see on your statement might be slightly different than quoted due to day-to-day currency exchange fluctuations. Unless there are sudden and dramatic swings in the exchange rate between the time you make your reservation and your bank processes the charge, the difference is almost always negligible.
